HPC cluster on demand and cost control at Storengy
By Jean-Frédéric Thébault, Senior Model Engineer, Storengy

The main activity of STORENGY, an affiliate of ENGIE, is the underground gas storage (aquifer and salt cavity). Storengy has its own HPC cluster to do all the simulations it has to do to estimate the behavior of the injected gas. This HPC cluster was designed for the regular needs of the company but sometimes Storengy faces unexpected demand to run additional simulations which exceed current capacity. In order to To deal with these unexpected needs of massive calculation, the company started a program to move the most demanding user to an on demand HPC environment on AWS.

The presentation will cover the different steps of the project and the solutions developed and deployed during this journey. Which allow the company to deploy an operational environment in less than 30 minutes with full cost control.
