TERATEC 2018 Forum
Workshop 5 - Wednesday, June 20 from 14h00 to 17h30

HPC, CLOUD AND EMBEDDED (HPC IN THE LOOP)

Autonomous Vehicles Simulation
Bernard DION, CTO, ANSYS Systems

Methods and tools are proposed to address key challenges in developing, verifying and validating safe automated driving embedded systems and software. A complete physics-based simulation environment is first proposed to exercise the Autonomous Vehicle embedded software based on very accurate road environment, vehicle dynamics and sensor models (Camera, LiDAR and Radar). A set of architecture patterns is then proposed to structure the AI/Deep Learning-based embedded software for perception and planning in a way that guaranteeing its safety properties becomes more tractable. Overall, the method that is proposed relies the availability of a very powerful computing platform and uses specific techniques to automatically produce variations of existing driving scenarios to detect edge cases.

Biography : Bernard Dion is the Chief Technical Officer of the Systems Business Unit of ANSYS that is developing system simulation and embedded software modeling and code generation tools. His duties include business development, product management and system certification. He is currently in charge of defining the ANSYS Autonomous Vehicles Open Simulation Environment. He co-founded Esterel Technologies in 2000, a part of ANSYS Inc. since 2012. Bernard holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Ecole Centrale de Lyon, a M.Sc. and Ph. D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
