TERATEC 2017 Forum
Workshop 7 - Wednesday, June 28 from 14:00 to 17:30

Scalability ot the CRAY XC and its ARIES network.
Tony FORD, Director of Engineering, European HPC Systems R&D, CRAY Inc.

Abstract :   This talk describes aspects of the Cray XC system and its HPC-optimized Aries™ interconnect that were designed for scalability, enabling Cray to deliver systems such as “Trinity”, installed recently to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The talk addresses scalability metrics that are important for supercomputer systems today and increasingly so for upcoming exascale systems. Results measured on Trinity demonstrate that the Aries Dragonfly network used in XC systems performs well in critical areas including collective latency, memory footprint, power consumption, and the affordability of high global bandwidth.

Tony Ford spent over 25 years in High-Performance Computing, delivering leading technology to some of the world's most demanding customers. He has been recently appointed Director of Engineering of the European HPC Systems R&D division of Cray Inc. In addition to operational & engineering leadership, experience includes scalable system architecture, engineering design and development, covering many aspects of high performance computing and infrastructure technology
