TERATEC 2017 Forum
Workshop 5 - Wednesday, June 28, from 14h00 to 17h30
Algorithms and Deep Learning, new paradigms and challenges?

Constraint Programming, theory and application
Jean-Guillaume FAGES, Constraint-Programming Expert, COSLING

Summary :  The Machine Learning has demonstrated its ability to transform masses of raw data into valuable information (forecasts, classification, etc.). Nevertheless, these new data are transformed into value only when they are translated into actual actions (predictive maintenance, customization of the offer, etc.). It becomes essential to have powerful tools to guide, if not automate, the decision-making.

Constraint Programming is a piece of response to this issue, which proposes a compositional framework for formulating and solving constrained problems. This technology is at the heart of many industrial applications, including configuration, planning and scheduling. This workshop will present this scientific field at the crossroads of Artificial Intelligence and Operational Research, through a theoretical introduction and use cases.

Biography : Jean-Guillaume FAGES holds a PhD in Computer Science (Laboratoire d’Informatique de Nantes Atlantique, 2014) on the use of Graphs within Constraint-Programming. He is a core developper of the Constraint-Programming solver Choco Solver since 2011. In 2014 Jean-Guillaume co-founded COSLING, a service company specialized in the development of optimization web-services for various industries.
