Europe’s Next Computing Frontier: Bringing Quantum, HPC and AI Together
Oscar Diez, Deputy Head of Unit for Quantum Technologies, European Commission
The keynote will look at how these technologies are converging, the role of hybrid HPC-quantum infrastructures, and how AI is transforming the design and use of advanced computing systems. It will also address the implications for European competitiveness, strategic dependencies and industrialisation. In this context, the Quantum Europe Strategy and the forthcoming Quantum Act will be important elements of Europe’s efforts to move from scientific excellence towards industrial capacity, resilient value chains and large-scale deployment.

Biography: Oscar Diez is the Deputy Head of Unit for Quantum Technologies at the European Commission, where he leads strategic initiatives to position Europe as a global leader in the quantum domain. With a robust background in both academia and public sector innovation, he previously served as Head of the Datacentre at the European Medicines Agency in London. Dr. Diez holds a PhD in Computer Science from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and a Master’s in Open eGovernment from Stockholm University. He also shares his expertise as an adjunct professor at IE University in Madrid. His work focuses on fostering scientific excellence, supporting industrial innovation, and advancing Europe's competitive edge in quantum technologies. |
