Get ready for the TERATEC 2016 Forum

On 27th October 2015, at Palais de l'Elysée in Paris, EC President Jean-Claude Juncker stated the following: "Big Data and high-performance computing are key catalysts for economic growth, technological innovation and digitisation across all economic sectors, particularly for SMEs and start-up companies, but also for society as a whole, scientific development, research and knowledge sharing. Our goal is for Europe to become one of the top 3 world leaders in high-performance computing by 2020".

The outstanding efforts made by the entire TERATEC community, particularly within the framework of France's national industrial supercomputing development program, have significantly contributed to laying the groundwork for achieving this goal. The TERATEC 2016 Forum will therefore provide a new opportunity for members of our research and development community to get together, share information on new high-performance computing technologies and applications, and meet new players in the field.

Many emerging trends discussed in our previous annual forums have since been confirmed, e.g. HPC development potential in Europe, extensive ongoing diversification of HPC application areas, rapid growth of HPC users (SMEs in particular), current convergence of Big Data and HPC technologies, and increased development of self-learning algorithms.

Firmly convinced that our efforts will continue to bear bruit and produce further positive results in 2016, I hereby invite you to join us on June 28th and 29th at Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau, Paris) for this 11th edition of the TERATEC Forum.

Book this date in your diary! Come and meet the HPC and Big Data community on June 28 and 29 at the TERATEC Forum. Register now!

TERATEC brings together top international experts in high performance numerical design, simulation and Big Data, making it the major event in France and in Europe in this domain. It emphasizes again the strategic importance of these technologies for developing industrial competitiveness and innovation capacity.

TERATEC Forum welcomes more than 1000 attendees, highlighting the technological and industrial momentum of HPC and the essential role that France plays in this field. TERATEC Forum has unique features, making it an exceptional place to be for simulation and HPC practitioners and managers: the participation and the testimony of industrial and ICT leaders, the diversity and the high level of the technical workshops, the representativeness and innovation potential of exhibitors.

The Vigipirate security plan being raised to its highest level, it is mandatory to register online in advance and come with an identity card order to participate in TERATEC Forum.

Plenary sessions dedicated to the technological challenges and diversification of Big Data, Simulation and High Performance Computing applications

On Tuesday 28th June, plenary sessions will be devoted to describing the most recent developments in the industry and providing examples of uses of new innovative technologies by users in different fields.

The ever-increasing development of digital technologies allows us to now consider performance levels that were simply unachieved only a few years ago. This calls for continuous monitoring of application performance to avoid implementing solutions with lower performance capabilities than what is currently achievable.

Moreover, the increased proximity of exaflop computing power and the continued development of big data processing tools will require us to redesign hardware and software architectures to take full advantage of newly available capabilities. This is the major challenge that awaits us, with the convergence of high-performance computing and big data analytics considered as the key for achieving new developments in coming years.

Eight Workshops on emerging technologies and new application areas for high-performance computing

On wednesday, june 29, coordinated by leading market players and acknowledged experts, these application and technology-oriented workshops will focus on emerging technologies (AT) and new application areas (AA) for high-performance computing, simulation and Big Data.

AT1 : Virtualization
HPC computing centers are more and more using technologies coming from the “cloud”. Virtualization is one of those that is gaining momentum. During this session, users will describe their needs of virtualization and technology providers will explicit their approaches on this topic.

AA2 : New approaches to Big Data in agriculture
This workshop will bring together major technology providers and end-users to discuss potential applications of IoT and machine learning technologies in various agricultural activities, e.g. agricultural selection/experimentation, crop management assistance, and agricultural insurance.

AT3 : Tools and algorithms for Big Data applications
Technologies for BG analysis open a whole range of new opportunities in the e-economy and in scientific discovery. Easy to use tools targeting non mathematical experts are in development and will reach out to a growing number of communities who define use cases and extract the economical and societal value. This workshop will provide concrete examples of such developments and will give an overview of the most advanced algorithmic development targeting Big Data.

AT4: Specialised computing architectures : helpers or challengers ?
This workshop is exploring and highlighting various specialized approaches for computing architectures at different scales, and the kinds of applications they can match. Functional and energy efficiency will be questioned, as well as the perspectives of such approaches – and whether they are to be considered and used as substitutes, helpers or challengers w.r.t. current CMOS-based general-purpose CPU-or-accelerator-built computing architectures.

AA5 : Visualisation and Multimedia
Image rendering to drive simulation or to analyse data, ray tracing, multimedia and streaming: all these domains make extensive usage of interconnected HPC systems and fast access to multitier storage. This workshop will be an opportunity to expose trends and share leading edge use cases, giving an overview of new possibilities offered by the most advanced technology development, both in HW and at the software stack.

AA6 : High Performance Integrated Computational Materials Engineering
High Performance Integrated Computational Materials Engineering aims at developing integrated multiscale approaches for the development, integration and processing of materials in an industrial context. This workshop aims to present recent advances of the use of high performance computing in this filed.

AT7 : HPC Technologies & Internet of Things (IoT) - Digital Twins Exploitation
Many innovations and new generation systems are based on Internet of Things (IoT) including massive sensors instrumentation. This workshop will be focused on new HPC software and infracstructure technologies integrated within these future smart systems. Examples of on line digital twin-based and simulation-driven troublesshooting and predictive maintenance systems as well as simulation-based controls will be adressed. Applications from various sectors (automotive, energy, civil engineering, health, defence, ...) will be presented

AA8 : Digital simulation technologies and applications in the healthcare sector
The healthcare sector is making increasing use of information and communication technologies in general, and high-performance computing in particular. Indeed, the rapid development of data storage, sharing and analysis technologies is revolutionising the medical and healthcare industries. The scope of application of these technologies covers all medical requirements in areas such as prevention, diagnostics and therapeutic treatment. Examples of such applications will be described and illustrated through testimonials, experiences and different industrial cases.

The two day exhibition will showcase the High Performance Computing and Big Data industry across the entire value chain

During these two days, there will be an exhibition covering the whole HPC industry. Systems manufacturers and software vendors, integrators and distributors, service providers, academic and laboratory researchers, public and private sector developers will present their latest HPC innovations.
